About Vegan Fest Japan (Veganfes)

Vegan Fest Japan — known locally as ビーガングルメ祭り (Vegan Gourmet Festival) and officially the Japan Vegan Festival — is the country's largest and most important plant-based event, run by the nonprofit VegeProject Japan (NPO法人ベジプロジェクト). Rather than a single annual edition, the festival tours up to five times a year across Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto, with Tokyo hosting both Spring and Autumn editions at the same beloved venue.

The Tokyo Spring 2026 edition lands on Sunday, 19 April 2026 from 10:30am to 4pm at Kiba Park Event Plaza in Koto Ward — a spacious urban park a 12-minute walk from Kiba Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. The Tokyo Autumn edition typically runs in early October at the same venue, while the Kyoto Spring edition is confirmed for 26 April 2026. Nagoya editions typically roll through spring and autumn as well.

The format is brilliantly simple: over 80 vegan stalls, all strictly plant-based with no animal products whatsoever (no fish, egg, meat, dairy or honey), with every stall required to display full ingredient labels. Expect vegan ramen, curries, burritos, doughnuts, ice cream, gelato, veggie burgers, Japanese pastries and specialty coffee — plus cruelty-free cosmetics, sustainable fashion and plant-based pet food. For vegan travellers to Japan, where navigating dashi, katsuobushi and hidden animal ingredients is notoriously tricky, this festival is a rare chance to eat freely without a single translation app query.

Entry is free, making it accessible to Tokyo's huge "veg-curious" population as well as committed vegans. The festival has become a genuine cultural event — families, couples and solo diners crowd the park, and the atmosphere skews joyful and unhurried rather than activist-intense. Many stalls are tiny independent vegan restaurants from across Japan, so the food quality punches well above festival average.
