About VeggieFest Portugal
VeggieFest Portugal is one of the country's longest-running plant-based festivals, operating since 2017 under the direction of the Veggie Fest Portugal team. The festival's anchor edition is the Festival Gastronómico Vegetariano de Matosinhos, held at Quinta da Conceição in Leça da Palmeira with free entry and consistent support from the Matosinhos municipal council. The 2025 edition took place 25-27 July at Quinta da Conceição, and the 2026 summer dates are expected to follow the same late-July window but remain to be announced officially.
Quinta da Conceição is an ideal host: a 16th-century monastic garden turned public park, with terraces, stone pathways, a historic cloister, and plenty of shade for a summer weekend. The festival occupies the grounds with a rotating mix of 40+ exhibitors, Portuguese vegan and vegetarian brands, small producers, and sustainability-focused ventures. Food stalls run the full gastronomic range - from vegan sausages and traditional Portuguese dishes reworked without animal products to sushi, plant-based pastries, and international street food.
The programming formula that has kept VeggieFest going for nearly a decade mixes showcookings by well-known Portuguese chefs, nutrition and lifestyle talks, yoga and tai chi classes in the park's shaded lawns, and a dedicated kids' area with cruelty-free activities. Recent editions have hosted Bruna Simões (MasterChef Portugal 2024), Ana Sofia Rosado, Chef Diana Dias, and Emanuel Sávio (MasterChef Brasil finalist). Evening programming adds live music and community-style communal tables.
Beyond the Matosinhos summer edition, the Veggie Fest Portugal umbrella has expanded into seasonal variants including summer and Christmas pop-ups, and a 6th VeggieFest edition ran on 28-29 March at Shopping Cidade do Porto. For the Matosinhos 2026 summer edition, organisers typically confirm dates two to three months out - check @veggiefestportugal on Instagram and the official site for announcements. Even without confirmed dates, this is one of the most reliable vegan festivals on the Portuguese calendar.
