Vegan Fantasy Fair

The Vegan Fantasy Fair is one of Europe's more unusual vegan events — a genre-bending hybrid that fuses plant-based cuisine with live-action role-play, tabletop gaming, fantasy literature, and cosplay. Held in the wooded grounds of Schlosspark Geislautern in Völklingen (Saarland), the fair spreads across roughly 10,000 square metres of castle park and divides the experience into five themed areas dedicated to food, gaming, reading, marketplace, and live performance.

Organized by Vegan Monster Shop, an online retailer that grew out of Germany's metal and subculture scene, the event is unapologetically niche: you're as likely to bump into an elf-eared LARPer as someone comparing seitan recipes. The marketplace features indie makers, small-batch food producers, and fair-trade lifestyle brands alongside game publishers like Asmodee and Moses Verlag. Authors including fantasy writer Elea Brandt host readings and Q&As, while tabletop tournaments, storytelling sessions, and open LARP demos run throughout the weekend.

The 2026 edition takes place Saturday 4 July from 12:00 to 22:00 and Sunday 5 July from 12:00 to 20:00. Saturday stretches later specifically to accommodate evening concerts and after-dark LARP scenarios under the castle lights. All food on site is 100% plant-based — there is no separate "vegan option," because the entire event operates that way. Expect everything from medieval-style roast alternatives and fantasy-themed beverages to modern street food with a storytelling twist.

The fair is explicitly family-friendly: children under a certain age enter free, and there's a dedicated kids' programme with creative workshops, fantasy-themed games, and story time. Tickets are sold via Eventbrite with day and weekend options; camping is available on request. The Völklingen Ironworks UNESCO site sits ten minutes away by car and makes a striking cultural pairing for visitors travelling from further afield.
