About Veganes Straßenfest Hamburg

The Veganes Straßenfest Hamburg has grown into one of northern Germany's largest plant-based gatherings, drawing more than 20,000 visitors in 2025 and prompting organizers to expand to a two-day format for the first time in 2026. Run entirely by volunteers under the non-profit Animal Rights Watch (ARIWA), the festival takes over the Spielbudenplatz on the Reeperbahn — a fitting location that places vegan culture squarely in the heart of Hamburg's most famous entertainment district.

Expect the square to fill with food trucks and market stalls slinging everything from classic Hamburg Franzbrötchen and Fischbrötchen made plant-based, to burgers, bratwurst alternatives, Turkish mezze, Asian street food, raw cakes, and cold-brew. Information booths from animal welfare organizations, sanctuaries, and ethical brands stretch across the plaza, making it as much a consciousness-raising event as a food fair. A raffle, live music, and speakers round out the program.

The 2026 edition runs Saturday and Sunday with info stands open from 11:00 to 19:00 on both days. Food stalls keep serving longer: Saturday until 22:00 and Sunday until 19:00. Admission is free and the open-air layout makes the event naturally walk-through and stroller-friendly. Expect dense crowds around lunch and early evening, especially on Saturday — come hungry, bring cash as well as cards, and plan to linger over multiple small plates rather than committing to a single vendor.

Getting there is simple: the St. Pauli U-Bahn station (U3) lets out a two-minute walk away, and the Reeperbahn S-Bahn is equally close. If the weather turns, the surrounding Reeperbahn bars and cafés absorb the overflow. The crowd skews young, progressive, and family-friendly during daytime hours, with more of a street-party feel as the sun goes down. For visitors combining Hamburg sightseeing with the festival, the Landungsbrücken harbor and Elbphilharmonie are both a short walk or tram ride away.
